Listener Descriptions

The Flexibility of the TETRA Alarm Control System

SDS/SMS-listeners

These listeners 'reads' the TETRA and GSM text formats, SDS and SMS. They are used when the TETRA Telemetry Unit is connected to a radio and not hard wired to the TETRA Alarm Control System. The TETRA Telemetry Unit communicates its alarms through this listener to the TETRA Alarm Control System.

The SDS Listener is used in the paper plant, Skärblacka, where some technical installations are very remote. The TETRA Telemetry Unit enables monitoring and control of these installations and raises alarms by SDS if necessary.

SMTP: E-mail Listener

An SMTP listener ‘listens’ to local SMTP-servers (e-mail server). It receives mails from a pro-duction system or panic button, and alarms are raised when an e-mail contains an alarm text. The TETRA Alarm Control System then alerts relevant personnel on their radio terminals. This listener is still functional even if the internet is down because the e-mail is read on the way out.

This listener is an important part of Zonith’s Unemployment Center solutions in which panic buttons send mails to the SMTP-listener with the location of the alarm. Approximately a second after the panic-button is pressed the guards receive the alarm text on their radio terminals.

I/O Listener

The I/O-listener is mostly used as 'translator' between a TETRA Telemetry Unit and the TETRA Alarm Control System. This listener is used if the TETRA Telemetry Unit and the TETRA Alarm Control System is connected by hard wire.

This solution is used on oil platforms in the off-shore business.

POP3 Listener

The POP3 Listener is used, when it is not possible to use the SMTP Listener. It searches a POP3-inbox at a regular interval for alarm texts. If an alarm is detected, the listener notifies the TETRA Alarm Control System

The POP3 listener is being used in wind mills with great succes.

ASCII Listener

The ASCII Listener is a general text listener. This future listener can listen in on RS232-connections (wire connections between computers), printer outputs and files. If any of the text has been pre-configured as an alarm the TETRA Alarm Control System is notified.

This listener is still under development but it should ready for use in late 2008.

JDBC Listener

The JDBC Listener listens to JDBC databases. Whenever a new row of data becomes available in the database, this listener extracts the alarm to the TETRA Alarm Control System.

The JDBC listener can be used in all JDBC databases, and is currently used in a traffic light solution, where alarms are raised in case of a traffic light malfunctions.

Alarm 112 Listener

When a 112 (European Standard Emergency Phone #) Alarm Central has an incoming call, the operator writes all the given information on the computer. This specific listener automatically transmits the information through the TETRA Alarm Control System directly to the radio terminals of the appropriate emergency person-nel.

This listener has been developed and will soon be used in the Danish 112 Emergency Services.

OPC Process Automation Listener

OPC is a process control communication stan-dard. OPC is widely used by large manu-facturers for communication between controls, process monitoring and alarms. The OPC listener can listen to thousands of alarms and controls in the OPC system. All you have to do is select the alarms, which you need the TETRA Alarm Control System to handle.

This listener is used in the Swedish paper plant, Skârblacka, a large plant with many alarms.

Jablotron Listener

Jablotron is a standard burglar alarm system, that raises alarms if sensors are triggered. This listener connects the Jablotron system to the TETRA Alarm Control System adding a wide array of functionality. If the sensors are to be consciously triggered by people in trouble, this combination creates an extremely stable and reliable panic alarm system.

Because of the panic button functionality this listener is used in Zonith's Unemployment Center solutions.

Network Managing System (NMS) Listeners

Command Line Listener

DOS-based Network Managing System (NMS) listener. This multi-purpose listener can listen to any system that can execute a file in DOS.

IBM Director Plug-in

Listens to IBM Director NMS system.
